At Lowemond, every dog is a valued member of our family and has helped shape our breeding journey. While only dogs that meet our strict health, temperament, and structural standards become a part of our breeding program, each dog has contributed to our knowledge and commitment to preserving and improving the German Shepherd Dog.
Our companion dogs have taught us some of the most important lessons about the breed. They have taught us the importance of patience, honesty, and restraint in breeding decisions. Loving a dog means recognizing that not every dog is a candidate for breeding and sometimes the most responsible choice is the most difficult one. These experiences have strengthened our commitment to thoughtful decision-making and to always putting the future of the breed first.

Gus
Companion
Gus is a high-drive male with a strong enthusiasm for training, play, and engagement with his handler. Gus is the type of dog who makes training enjoyable—his eagerness to learn, natural enthusiasm, and love of working together make every session a rewarding experience.
While a unilateral elbow diagnosis of degenerative joint disease prevented him from being included in our breeding program, Gus continues to enjoy an active and fulfilling life. His journey has reinforced the importance of thoughtful breeding decisions while reminding us that every dog has value beyond their role in a breeding program.
Hugo
Companion
Hugo is a loving, goofy boy with a playful personality who enjoys interaction and especially looks forward to meal time. Hugo has a mild unilateral hip dysplasia with subluxation; although he is not part of our breeding program, he is very much a cherished member of our household.
He is a stunning black, long-coat, working-line German Shepherd with tremendous food drive. While he does not have strong toy or ball drive, he enjoys playful interaction in his own unique way—sometimes even responding to a simple stomp of the foot as an invitation to engage. Hugo is admired everywhere he goes for his striking beauty, and we have even had people stop their cars to ask about him.
He is very smart and understands commands, but he is not particularly motivated by structured training or retrieving games. Instead, he thrives on companionship, daily life, and food-based motivation, bringing a relaxed and joyful presence to our home.
Basil
Companion
Basil is a massive, black and red German Shepherd with a striking presence, a powerful head, and a beautiful coat. He is a spirited, high-drive male with an enormous personality and an endless enthusiasm for interaction.
Basil is exceptionally intelligent and thrives on engagement with his family. He brings a playful creativity to daily life and is always looking for ways to interact—often turning everyday moments into a game. His strong drives make him an enthusiastic and highly trainable companion.
While severe hip dysplasia and associated joint disease prevented Basil from being included in our breeding program, he continues to live a full and enriched life. His journey has reinforced our commitment to making thoughtful breeding decisions while recognizing that every dog has value far beyond their role in a breeding program.
Xerxes
Companion
Xerxes is a confident, strong-nerved male with a powerful presence and qualities that reflect the versatility of the German Shepherd Dog. He is an exceptionally intelligent dog who learns quickly and enjoys having a job to do. His ability to understand new concepts keeps training sessions challenging and rewarding, as he thrives when presented with new opportunities to learn.
Xerxes has strong food drive, ball drive, and possession drive, along with a deep loyalty and desire to work alongside his handler. He brings intensity, enthusiasm, and focus to training while remaining a devoted companion. He lives in our home and is an important part of our daily life.
While orthopedic findings identified through evaluation prevented his inclusion in our breeding program, Xerxes continues to thrive and participate in sport-based training that allows him to channel his natural drives while building engagement, confidence, and teamwork.
